YouTube is stepping up its game in South Korea. It has lately announced a new initiative that is basically focused at empowering Korean content creators with innovative tools with respect to generating additional income. The core of it is the shopping affiliate program and basically designed for the South Korean market.
The program allows eligible YouTubers to tag products directly within their Shorts, videos and livestreams. Viewers can easily click on the tags and get directed to the affiliated website of the retailer. The move enhances viewer experience and simultaneously provides creators with a new monetizing option to their content.
YouTube launched the same feature in the United States last June. The expansion into South Korea is a significant step in integrating online shopping with digital content creation. Korean creators can now have the potential to earn commissions.
The program will initially partner with South Korean e-commerce giant Coupang. Brands registered on Coupang will be featured on YouTube channels. It will be a seamless connection between content creators and consumers. It is learned some more commerce platforms will be partnered.
YouTube is also learned to be introducing a new function tailored for the Korean market. The innovative tool will enable creators to open their own stores directly on the YouTube Shopping list. It is being developed partnered with Korean e-commerce platform Cafe24 Corp.
Michelle Lee, head of YouTube’s Content Partnership in Korea, emphasized the importance of creators in providing their viewers some authentic shopping information. She said that creators have always played important roles in providing viewers with useful shopping information. They are excited to see how creative Korean creators will use these features.
