Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta Platforms, recently announced that Threads, a part of Meta, is testing a new feature. Now, posts from Threads might show up not just on Threads but also on Mastodon and other platforms using the ActivityPub system.
When Threads launched in July, Meta shared plans to make it work with other social networks. Now, they are taking a step forward by testing it with Mastodon. Mastodon, similar to Threads, is an alternative to Elon Musk’s social media platform “X,” which used to be Twitter.
Making Threads work with other social media platforms means users get more choices in using their stuff. Mark Zuckerberg says it is about giving people more options to interact and making sure that what you share reaches even more people.
Mastodon is known for its unique structure. It is decentralized and driven by users. This makes it a bit like Threads but with its own style. Both Threads and Mastodon use something called ActivityPub, a system that lets users create their own social media experiences.
In July, when Threads was introduced, Meta said they plan to team up with ActivityPub. This means, in the future, you might have the choice to move your Threads content to another service if you want.
Threads has been making waves since its launch, with over 100 million people signing up in just five days! Now, the good news is, Threads is getting ready to roll out in Europe in December, according to reports.
This move by Meta shows they are exploring new ways for Threads to connect with other social media platforms. As Threads continues to grow, it looks like we might have more ways to share and connect on social media soon.
