Google’s SERP Feature and its Effect on Commercial Content

Google’s search results have been causing a stir lately. You might have heard about scandals questioning if what you see on Google is fair and true. Well, one big part of this is something called SERP features, especially the lists you often see at the top of your search results.

These lists, like “From sources across the web,” have become pretty common. But there is a problem. They are not always as helpful or honest as they seem. In fact, they sometimes go against Google’s own rules.

Let us break it down. Features of the lists are a lot like a sneaky SEO trick called programmatic SEO. It is all about filling web pages with info from big databases. But Google’s twist? They pick info from just a few big companies and not the whole web.

Now, why does this matter? Well, think about when you search for something like “best SEO consultants.” The list Google shows might not be totally accurate. Some people listed might not even be SEO consultants anymore. Plus, the sources Google picks can be sketchy and not always reliable.

So, why does Google keep doing this? Money, plain and simple. They make cash when businesses pay to be seen on these lists or in ads. This means smaller websites struggle to get noticed unless they pay up.

But it is not just about money. These lists mess with how you find info online. They push out original ideas and can even leave out important voices like women or minorities.

So, what can we do? We need to tell Google we want better search results, ones that are fair and true. Because at the end of the day, it is about you getting the info you need, without all the tricks and shortcuts.
