AI Adoption and Google SGE Concerns Explained

The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) and Google’s Search Generative Experience (SGE) have raised the concern of technical SEOs. A recent report from the State of Technical SEO Report 2024 has shed some light on it.

The report by Aira and the Women in Tech SEO community stresses that it is not to worry about AI will negatively impact job security. About 46 percent of technical SEOs voice the same. This means there is no immediate threat to technical SEO professionals. However, about 36% expressed concerns across in-house and agency roles.

Alamy’s head of Search & SEO, Roxanna Stingu, expressed that AI cannot fully replace human expertise in the SEO sector as nuanced decision-making is required based on common sense. At least AI lack the quality and yet to replicate effectively.

Lately, the rise in generative AIs has sparked debate among SEO practitioners. Seventy percent of participants in the survey expressed worries about how SGE might impact regular organic search results.

Flywheel Digital employee Natasha Burtenshaw-deVries said things are now in uncertainty related to the SGE and it has the potential to impact everyday users.

However, the report highlights that AI tools are already integrated into SEO workflows. It is learned that fifty percent of the respondents use AI and machine learning (ML) tools for tasks like content creation, metadata generation, keyword research and page auditing. This means they are relying more on AI-driven technologies to streamline SEO processes.

The survey also reveals that Google is still a dominant player in the search market. Most of the respondents believe that ChatGPT and Bing are not immediate threats to Google’s market share.
